This year Oakland Tech’s Girls Lacrosse Team has been greatly improved over the last two years since they have been in the club and they are finally starting to win some games. The team is made up from two freshman, several great sophomores and juniors and a handful of strong seniors. While some members of the team have played team lacrosse for years, there are several members who had barely held a lacrosse stick prior to try-outs.
The team, being a club team, has to travel for most of their games that are played on the weekends in varying locations. The scores of their past few games are as follows:
3/24 At Morgan Hill: Oakland Tech 12, Washington HS Eagles 5; Oakland Tech 12, Morgan Hill Clovers 7
3/31 At Rohnert Park: Casa Grande 13, Oakland Tech 5; Oakland Tech 13, Rancho 7
4/15 At Redding: Oakland Tech 7, Chico Rebels 4; Redding Wildfire 13, Oakland Tech 6
4/21 At Oakland: Oakland Tech 8, Washington Eagles 6; Petaluma 10, Oakland Tech 4
Next weekend in Petaluma the team will face off with Casa Grande (the strongest of the club teams in Oakland Tech’s Division) along with the Morgan Hill Clovers.

Last Saturday (March 3rd), on their home field, the Oakland Tech girl’s lacrosse team played in the first tournament of the season. The first game was against San Jose High School. Oakland Tech played a hard game, ending the first half in a tie, 5 – 5. The second half was a battle as the Tech girls fought hard but fell short 8 – 13, with San Jose taking home the win. This didn’t stop the girls, however: in the second game, OT dominated against Rancho High School, pulling out a 12 – 5 victory! Congrats to Rachel Loo, who was on fire and scored 4 of the 8 points in the first half. Quite a few of the players on the team also scored their first goals, including some girls playing in their first game ever! Congratulations to a great start of the season, OT girls!

Even though it’s a spring sport, with practices in February, and games starting in March, students still need to sign up by November 18 for a spot on a team. We have to pay the league per team at the end of November, so need our rosters filled by then. We will be fielding two boys teams this season, JV & varsity, and a girls team.

After three weekends of playoffs, the Boys JV Lacrosse Team brought home the NCJLA’s Boys JV Championship by defeating the Chico Rebels 16-10, in a nail-biting game Sunday morning at Treasure Island. The success of this season is a testament of the dedication and commitment of Tech students, coaches and the school administration. Just a second year program and with many first time players, these boys surprised everyone by taking on and winning against long term established teams. Thank you to the families and students who came out to cheer!
… And look out for next year’s Boys Lacrosse JV AND Varsity Teams and Girl’s Lacrosse Teams.
