Practice for Wednesday 12/19/12 begins at 3:30 p.m. Please arrive early so you are ready to go at 3:30 p.m.

Tuesday’s practice will be limited to the players listed below. Others are welcome to watch and/or bring their own ball to work on technical skills behind the goals. Even if you are listed below, you will not necessarily be an active participant in practice. You may end up observing only. This will be a varsity-focused practice, field space will be limited, and we will only run the early session.

Boys soccer practices will be at 2:00 p.m. this Wednesday, December 12, 2012. Arrive by 1:45 p.m., so you are ready by 2:00 p.m.

In case of heavy rain tonight, meet inside the boys gym. If there is light rain or drizzle, meet on the field. Arrive 5:30 p.m. Be ready by 5:45 p.m.

JV Boys versus Bishop O’dowd on Saturday, December 1 has been postponed and will be rescheduled at a later date.

Those players who practiced with Milan on Monday, please show up at 3:45 p.m. and be ready to go by 4:00 p.m. The players listed below should also show up at the same time and be ready to go. Some of you will only observe until the second session begins. Players who did not practice with Milan or are not listed below should arrive by 5:00 p.m. and be ready to go by 5:15 p.m. There will be very limited field space as the girls will be practicing, so please stay out of the way until the first session players are excused.

Players will need to arrange for their own rides to Piedmont High school for this Wednesday’s matches. We will use these matches as tryouts and will divide the players by grade level. 9th and 10th graders will play in the 5:30 p.m. game and 11th and 12th graders will play in the 7:30 p.m. game. Not everyone will be invited to these games. Players who will be considered for these games will be notified at practice on Monday and the final decision on who is playing in these games will be made at Tuesday’s practice. We will take about 16 to 18 players for each game. This is not a final selection. Playing in the 5:30 p.m. game does not mean you are on JV. Football has finally finished their season and we can start to practice on a more regular schedule. The schedule below may change. Any changes will be announced at practice and/or online. Some practices may be limited to certain players. Limitations (such as varsity only) will be announced at prior practices and online, and will remain fairly consistent throughout the season.

Mondays: Arrive 5:30 p.m., Ready by 5:45 p.m.

Tuesdays: Arrive 3:45 p.m., Ready by 4:00 p.m. This will be a limited session. A second session may be held from time to time depending on coaching availability for players not invited to the 4:00 p.m. session. Second session (when announced): Arrive 5:30 p.m., Ready by 5:45 p.m.

Wednesdays: Arrive 5:30 p.m., Ready by 5:45 p.m. (may change on some minimum days)

Thursdays: Arrive 5:30 p.m., Ready by 5:45 p.m.

We are fortunate to have a large turnout for our teams this season. Our goal this year is give everyone the chance to participate and improve without sacrificing the quality of our training sessions for the more advanced players. Here’s how it will work starting November 15, 2012.

Prior to each training session, the coaches will determine how many players will participate in the “core practice.” Usually this number will be between 30-40 players for joint varsity/JV sessions. We will rank our pool of players at the end of the previous day’s session, taking into account skill, effort, grades, attendance, and fitness. At the beginning of each session, the coaches will go down the list until we have enough players for our “core practice.” The rest of the players will be given a set of drills to work on independently during the practice to improve their skills. The attendance and participation of these players will be noted in future rankings.

Players may move in and out of the core team based on improving or declining skill, effort, grades, attendance, and fitness. As the season progresses, the core (25 to 30 players) of the core team will solidify, but there will still be some movement in and out of the core team for the duration of the season. The varsity and JV teams will be drawn from the most consistent core team players. We will suit up 15-18 players for our games. Those players will be announced in the days leading up to each game. By the time the Oakland Athletic League games start in January, the identity of the varsity team will be largely settled, but the doors to the team will not be closed. Deserving players may be promoted up as late as January or February. We look forward to defending our OAL title.

Boys JV and Boys Varsity will be practicing on Mondays and Wednesdays over the holiday break from 12p to 2p. Arrive early so you are ready to warm up by 12p. If you will be out of town, be sure to bring a ball with you and juggle/dribble when possible. Also, don’t forget to stay in shape by warming up well and doing intervals once or twice a week in addition to some slower, longer runs.

Varsity boys soccer practice will start at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 14, 2011. Please arrive by 1:45 p.m. to get ready.

Due to not enough committed players for December 20, 2011, the matches against Las Lomas have been cancelled.

The girls varsity and JV teams have games Tuesday, so there will be no boys practices that day. The schedule for the week of December 5 is as follows:
