1/20 Practice Postponed

Tuesday, January 19th, 2010

Hello Varsity,

I’m sorry guys, but the beginning of our season is postponed until further notice. Despite Mr. Coplan’s best efforts, we’ve been unable to get access to a training facility. I’d love to work out with the medicine balls, on the field, but I hear that we’re looking at rain for 25 of the next 30 days. I’m meeting with Mr. Coplan, at Tech, tomorrow. Hopefully we’ll be able to square something away. I’ll keep you posted.

Warmest Regards,

Volleyball Team Update

Thursday, January 14th, 2010

Hello Varsity,

Our facility situation is in flux, as it so often is at the beginning of our season. We’ll be beginning our strength and conditioning program at 4:00pm, on Wednesday, January 20th, in our old, dirty training room. We’re so “Rocky 4″. Mr. Copland is still working on gym time for us, but has not been able to secure anything yet. I’ll keep you posted.

I’d like to schedule a parent meeting immediately following our first practice. If you parent, or guardian isn’t on this email list, they need to be. Parent involvement and coordination is essential to a successful season. We are blessed to have some of the best. Lets make this year the best yet!

The coach at CPS will be hosting open gyms on Saturday afternoons, likely starting on the 23rd of January. He’s going to let me know when he finalizes the schedule. He’s very graciously opened it to us. We’ll likely carpool over together from Tech. I’ll notify you when I find out more.

Most of you went through the pre-season weight training last year. This year will be highly compressed and intense. In an effort to hit the ground running (pun totally intended :-) ), you should all practice a (3/20yd 20sec.) split, every-other day. That means that you should be comfortable running three consecutive 20yd sprints, separated by 20 second rest periods. We’ll likely work out with six to eight splits per day. Each complete split should be followed by a minimum three minute rest period. Some of you are just coming out of soccer season, so you should be in pretty god shape. If you’re not, start today. Seniors, get your guys together. Your opponents have already started. We were competitive with some of the best teams in NorCal, last year. Let’s improve on that, this year.

Warmest Regards,

Info on Upcoming Season

Monday, January 4th, 2010

Hello Varsity!

Our season is almost upon us! I hope you’ve all had a great holiday season and a great start to your new year.

I have a few brief points to touch on:

RECRUITING! We need more players. We have a tentative meeting scheduled for this Friday, after school. Please try to get yourselves, and some new recruits to that meeting. If you know of someone that has interest already, shoot me his email address, and I’ll add him our email list.

STRENGTH TRAINING! We’re starting our strength training next week. Facility availability will determine exactly what we’ll be doing. No matter what it is, it will make you more powerful and explosive. Strength training is MANDATORY. We’ll likely follow a Monday/Wednesday/Friday schedule for four weeks.

OPEN GYMS! Mr. Copland is working on getting the gym for a couple of evenings, over the next few weeks. They’ll be open to current and former Boys and Girls team players.

Most of the specifics are still being worked out by Mr. Copland. Feel free to say thanks when you see him. I’ll update you when I hear more.

I’ve missed you guys. I can’t wait to get back to work!

Warmest Regards,
