Oakland Tech Field Replacement Slated for Completion By Sept. 1

School NewsComments Off on Oakland Tech Field Replacement Slated for Completion By Sept. 1

Tech’s field replacement broke ground on July 10 and is slated to be completed by September 1. We’re delighted to report that the district and School Board listened to the Tech community’s concerns about crumb rubber infill and opted for an alternative.

The infill chosen for this project is called TPE (Thermo Plastic Elastomer), considered by many to be the safest, most long-lasting and environmentally friendly infill on the market today. Not only can TPE be re-used as infill long after the new turf has outlived its lifespan, it is also considered very safe from a human health perspective since it does not off-gas nor break down like crumb rubber does.

This is a great outcome for the Oakland Tech community, and it should set an important precedent for all future OUSD field projects. A huge THANK YOU to School Board Director Jody London, OUSD Facilities Planning Coordinator David Colbert, and Oakland Tech Athletic Director James Coplan for their support during this process.
