The Oakland Tech Math Dept. looks forward to working with your student in mathematics next year. We’re firmly committed to each student’s success in math as a key to his or her future opportunities, and are excited to partner with you to make sure that your child has a positive math experience in 2017-18.
Spring Diagnostic Test
Recently, every student at Oakland Tech took a math diagnostic based on the math class they are scheduled to enter this fall. This is the first time we have administered these tests to the entire Tech community. Our intent is to gather information that will be useful for both teachers and families as we prepare for the 17-18 school year.
Test results were mailed home the week of June 12.
Many students need a lot of review in order to have a smooth experience going forward. These results should help students identify the specific skills they should work on to get ready for next year.
Sign Up for Online Learning this Summer
We recommend students use an online resource this summer in order to learn some of the skills they’ll need next year. We will track their progress and perhaps offer a number of elective credits towards graduation if students can show improvement when they take a similar test this fall.
We will set-up an account for your student and will be in touch shortly after they sign up. We’re planning to offer targeted study sessions throughout the summer, based on the online work students complete. The program requires internet access, which is widely available at every public library in Oakland.
