Weekly Update from Tech’s Top Dogs

Dear Oakland Tech Community,

We had our Western Association of Schools & College (WASC) review this week. WASC is the accrediting body for the western region of the United States. Accreditation is the process for evaluation and assuring the quality of educational institutions and programs.

During the 2015-16 school year, we were put on probation by WASC, so the WASC team came back this week to assess our school. The four WASC team members — one teacher and three administrators — were from other school districts in California. Our goal is to receive the highest marking, which would result in a WASC review every six years. Tech’s WASC score will be shared in April.

The WASC team heard from our students that they love the diversity, the services, and the caring teachers. The team also interviewed teachers, classified staff, and parents. The team also noticed that the students and adults seemed happy. What’s more, they also shared with us their recognition that there has been tremendous growth at Tech based on our action plan.

You may read our report here, which includes the detailed action plan.

In Unity,

Staci Ross-Morrison & Josue Diaz Jr.
Oakland Tech Co-Principals
