The Oakland Tech PTSA will be hosting LUNAFEST 2018 in the Oakland Tech Auditorium on Friday, June 1 at 7:30 PM. This traveling film festival spotlights recent work by, for, and about women. The nine short films have intelligent, funny and thought-provoking themes. Overall length is about 90 minutes. Bring your friends!

Here’s the lineup of 2018 selected directors:

Svetlana Cvetko is an award-winning director and cinematographer, acclaimed for her cinematography on several Oscar wining documentaries, including INSIDE JOB and INEQUALITY FOR ALL. As director, her first short film NO WAIT won the Grand Prix du Public in Films de Femmes, and her most recent short documentary YOURS SINCERELY, LOIS WEBER just won Best Documentary at LA Shorts Festival. 
Funa Maduka is a filmmaker, whose works include a documentary about the founding of the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls. She formerly served as a strategic advisor for Lady Gaga’s Born this Wayand a position with Obama for America, the Clinton Global Initiative and Goldman Sachs. She holds a degrees from Cornell University and Harvard University.
Emily Sheskin is a director who was recently featured in Vimeo’s “10 Groundbreaking Women in Film to Watch in 2017.” She holds a BFA from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts and is a member of New York Women in Film & Television, The Film Shop, and IFP. 

Uttera is an MFA graduate of the USC School of Cinematic Arts, she was chosen as one of the directors on the USC/James Franco feature film “MAD WHALE” starring Camilla Belle, Dominic Rains, Summer Phoenix and James Franco. Uttera is the recipient of the Ryan Murphy Diversity Fellowship.

Joey Ally ‘s multiple award winning films MINIMUM WAGE, PARTNERS, and JOY JOY NAILS have screened internationally including at the Sundance Film Festival, Tribeca, AFI Fest, Aspen ShortsFest, and more. Most recently she co-wrote, executive produced, and starred in a dark comedy for Turner and Refinery29’s Shatterbox program.
Amanda Quaid is an actor, writer and director from New York. Her first short, ENGLISH, premiered at Cannes Short Film Corner in 2014. TOYS is her first animated film. For more, visit amandaquaid.com.

Megan Brotherton  earned her MFA in Acting at the American Repertory Theatre at Harvard University. She wrote, directed and starred in EVERYBODY DOES IT, a short comedy shown at Dances With Films Festival earning a Best Comedy Award. Megan’s new film, BUTTERCUP, premiered at the 2017 Sun Valley Film Festival. She also directs sketches for Funny or Die.

Anne began her career as an assistant, creative executive, and screenwriter working with filmmakers including Fred Roos, Warren Beatty, and Sophia Coppola before going on to co-found Transistor Studios. She is also Executive Producer of the interactive documentary project CRITICAL PATH, a seven-year-long-and-counting documentation of the evolution of video games.
Bekky O’Neil is a multidisciplinary artist, animator, and director born in Toronto. Bekky is currently pursuing postgraduate studies in Animated Documentary and Sustainable Agriculture in the Interdisciplinary Masters in Art, Media and Design at OCAD University. Alongside her partner Keith Del Principe, Bekky is the co-founder of Cardboard Reality Farm and Studios.

LunaFest was established in 2000 to simultaneously promote women filmmakers, raise awareness for women’s issues, and support nonprofit organizations throughout the US and Canada. Proceeds of this event will be used across Oakland Tech PTSA programs.
