Greetings, Bulldog Families,
Welcome to the new school year! I hope you and your children had a restful and enjoyable summer. We know the transition from summer to a new school year is an adjustment. We also
know that for some students the first day and week of school can bring some unrest and anxiety. The Oakland Tech staff has worked hard to prepare for a smooth opening of school and is ready to support your child(ren).
First Day of School
All students should arrive at school on time prepared to learn and engage. Along with good energy and excitement, 10th, 11th and 12th grade students must also bring their completed summer assignments. All students MUST have their 2018-19 student photo ID cards in their possession. If they do not have an ID, they will take one between 8:30 AM and 12:30 PM on the first day of school. (Students will be notified of when and where.)
Put Wednesday, Sept. 5, on your calendar for Tech’s annual Back-to-School Night — an important gathering for parents and guardians to meet their students’ teachers, learn about curriculum and understand the year ahead. We are confirming the start time and will announce it soon. What’s more, 9th-12th grade students who qualify for the Free & Reduced Meal program will have the opportunity to sign up and receive a free cell phone with a hot-spot from Sprint.
Oakland Tech has a thriving community not only for our students but for our families as well with many activities and events happening daily. Be sure to read the weekly Bullhorn (which all families should receive in their email) and check the Oakland Tech website regularly for the most most up-to-date information and events schedules. These important communication vehicles are made possible by great parent volunteers (Michelle Quinn and Lisa Fernandez edit the Bullhorn and Nancy Murr and Morris Dye are in charge of the website).
