On Saturday, 23 February 2013, at 9:15PM, the Dogs will face the Tri-Valley Daemons on the NHL rink at Oakland Ice.

The OT hockey team is currently placed in the High School Junior Varsity C division.

Play of the game is “to the puck”. This is a non-checking division, but if you are playing to the puck and go through an opposing player, that is allowed.

NOTES FOR PLAYERS:

Players must be mindful of appropriate on-ice behaviour. Avoid hateful behaviour.

Players should be treated as adults and with respect. Tardy arrivals at practice sessions and game warmpus is not tolerated. If a player is early for practice, the player is on time. If a player is on time for practice, the player is late.

Players need to be at game site one hour prior to game time.

Player dress code: wear warmup jerseys to games. Do not wear attire bearing gang symbology, etc.

Carpooling: players without rides should contact either the captain or alternate captains to arrange transportation.

NOTES FOR PARENTS/GUARDIANS:

The following are parental responsibilities:

If player is sick or must miss a practice or game, call or email Coach Bobby as early as possible. Notification at least 72 hours prior to practice or games is appreciated.

A player’s unexcused absence from a practice will earn one benched period of a game.

Coach’s objective for playing time for each player:

Coach will always attempts to play everyone.

If in the third period, the game is close, the Coach will play the first two lines to maximize the chances of winning.

The OT hockey team members will participate in service days just like all prior years. The schedule for 2013 has not yet been determined, but will likely include a session to feed the homeless. It is anticipated that this will happen after the end of the season.

Carpooling: please assist in arranging player transporation whenever possible.

Please make an effort to attend every game and show your vocal support.

OT and OUSD make no financial contributions to the hockey program.

The City of Oakland pays for ice time for the team. This amounts to approximately $500-$600 per player per season. (The City of Oakland also pays for A period ice time.)

It was suggested that any interested parents might utilize the PTSA yahoo group for publicizing the hockey games and increasing awareness of the team’s contribution to the OT community.

There will be one team trip to an SF Bulls game, this season. Details will be announced.

Logistics: the game scheduling is trickling out very slowly; most games are announced less than one week prior to game time. If parents wish to redress this problem, please address comments to the league scheduler:

In a season to remember, the ‘Dogs had more players score, this year, than the two previous seasons combined. Head Coach Jim Halpin has built a team that has been a privilege to watch, this year.

In perhaps the best game of their three year existence, the ‘Dogs played their collective hearts out for this game. Passing, challenging all opposing players, defense, and most impressively of all, goal tending, were phenomenal all night. And the ‘Dogs have something unique on their team: possibly the only New Zealander goalie in all of California. Abram, this has been a year to watch and appreciate. Thank you! Dan, Mr. Captain, you are going to be missed next year.

In a nail biter, the ‘Dogs won their first ever ice hockey championship, 5-4, over the Tri-Valley Blues. This was a keeper of a game with all the action, skill, mistakes, and unflagging spirit you could ever want in a sporting contest. The ‘Dogs are in the High School Junior Varsity Championship game on Sunday, March 27th at 8:30AM at San Jose Ice, South rink. In their second year on ice, this team has matured to their division championship game! Amazing! Come show your support, next weekend. Do the Oh Tee chant. Do the Oh Tee arm waves. Oakland Tech Bulldogs vs Tri-Valley Blues. I would imagine Coach Tim was faced with a problem he enjoyed having: he probably needed to ask his team to ease up in the closing minutes of their match, tonight. The ‘Dogs won their hockey match 11-1. Jasper Korican-Barlay was credited with scoring 10 of the ‘Dogs goals with assists from Nick Van der Walle, Allen Lee, and Jack Tenley. Nick Nguyen scored the closing goal at 3:27 of the third period. And Kamrin Lewis waited until the final second of the match to collect his penalty for this game. At this point of the season, according to the liahl website, the ‘Dogs are now 1-0 for the 2010-2011 regular season. Go, ‘Dogs! I love the way you hockey!

Just announced last night: the first game of the OT Bulldogs Ice Hockey regular season 2010-2011 will take place at Oakland Ice, tonight, on the NHL rink. Game time is 21:15.

In a very close game, the tenacious ‘Dogs tied the score in the third period, but then lost by only a single goal. Congratulations, ‘Dogs. Scoresheet.

They played valiantly, but lost last night to the Cardinal Newman JV team. The ‘Dogs never quit during the entire game and pressured the Cardinals until the very end of the match. Scoresheet.

In a wonderful display of ever increasing skills on ice, the Oakland Tech Ice Hockey team won their first game of their club history, last evening, at the Oakland Ice Center. Indeed, one of the best chants heard in the stands during the game was “Go Bulldogs! I love the way you hockey!”

No one could have said it better.

There were a number of other firsts, last night: The Bulldogs scored the first goal of the game; they led at the end of the first period (3-1); they lead at the end of the second period (4-1); they led at the end of the third period (5-3). They even scored a short-handed goal. Each of the ‘Dogs skated with determination and a refusal to quit. It was rewarding to view the results of the patience and investment made by the unflagging coaches of the Bulldogs. Thank you, Coaches Lyons, Halpin, and Sedaka.
