Scholarship: Elks National Foundation's Most Valuable Student Contest

Scholarship Amount: Ranging from $1,000 per year to $15,000 per year

Eligibility: Any high school senior who is a citizen of the United States is eligible to apply. Applicants must be citizens of the United States on the date their applications are signed; resident alien status does not qualify. Applicants will be judged on scholarship, leadership, and financial need. Most Valuable Student scholarships are for students pursuing a four-year degree, on a full-time basis (minimum of 12 semester hours), in a U.S. college or university.

East Bay College Fund Scholarship

Scholarship: East Bay College Fund Scholarship

Sponsor/Organization: East Bay College Fund

Scholarship Amount: East Bay College Fund grants $16,000 scholarships to be awarded over four years ($4,000 per year).

Eligibility: Senior attending an Oakland public high school. Demonstrates: Academic preparation to succeed in college. Resiliency: able to overcome obstacles to achieve academic and personal goals. Life skills: responsible, resourceful and involved with others (work, school, family, community). Documented financial need. Will be attending a four-year accredited college or university in the U. S. Exceptions: Students with documented admission to a college/university for Spring semester who will attend a community college only for the previous Fall semester will be considered, as will students with documented “dual admissions” to a UC campus who are required to attend a community college for the first two years. Cumulative minimum 3.0 GPA to maximum 3.7 GPA. Note: Cumulative GPAs slightly below 3.0 will be considered if accompanied by compelling circumstances. Must be available for an in-person interview on the scheduled date. Must be available to attend the Great Expectations Awards Ceremony in the Spring.

Scholarship: Matters Of Life & Death Scholarship Writing Contest

Scholarship Amount: $1,000 for First Place, $500 for Second Place, and $250 for Honorable Mention

Eligibility: This contest is open to California college-bound students in grades 11 and 12 during the 2010-2011 academic year. Submit a typewritten essay, no more than 1,000 words, preferably using Microsoft Word. (You may also send it in PDF.) The essay must be in 12-point Times New Roman font and single-spaced. Essays will be judged on quality and clarity of presentation, correct use of terminology, familiarity with the issues, original application of research, and potential shown by the author.

Eligibility: The eQuality Scholarship Collaborative awards scholarships to honor and encourage northern and central California students for their service to the lesbian/gay/bisexual/transgender community.
