Scholarship: Jenny Franchot Berkeley Prize Essay Contest

Scholarship Amount: $1000. One award will be granted to an Oakland Tech student.
Eligibility: Open to 12th grade students at Oakland Tech. 500-1000 word essay on this topic: "Spirituality comes in many forms. Pick a particular moment from a book or story that you have read and discuss why that moment seems spiritual to you and/or what spiritual issues it raises."

Scholarship: CIF / Farmers Scholar-Athlete of the Year
Sponsor/Organization: California Interscholastic Federation and Farmers Insurance Group
Scholarship Amount: The two State winners – 1 boy and 1 girl -- will each receive a $5,000 scholarship.
The 20 Section winners – 1 boy and 1 girl each per CIF Section – will receive a $2,000 scholarship.
Eligibility: Students must:
1. Possess no less than an unweighted umulative (grades 9-12) grade point average of 3.50;
2. Have demonstrated superior athletic ability in at least two years of varsity play within California (must be participating in athletics as a senior); and
3. Most of all have portrayed themselves as athletes of character displaying trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, community service and citizenship.

Eligibility: The “Que Llueva Café” Scholarship aims to support the dreams, hopes and aspirations of college
bound undocumented students so that they can earn their college education and allow for all of
their hard work and sacrifice to persevere. This scholarship program strives to make a world of
difference.
Eligibility Criteria:
• Must be of Chicano / Latino descent
• Must be an undocumented student. We define an undocumented student as someone who was
born outside of the U.S. but lives here without the legal permission of the federal
government.
• Must be or will be a high school/GED graduate who will enroll for the first time in an
accredited college or university in the U.S. or Puerto Rico for the 2011-2012 academic year.
Due to limited funds, students enrolled in college after they have graduated will not be
considered.
• Must demonstrate financial need.
• Must demonstrate academic potential and promise.
