Eligibility: 3.0 GPA or higher -The applicant must write an essay in accordance to the guidelines - Vietnamese American (a person of Vietnamese descendant living in United States) - A graduating senior from a Easy Bay area public or charter high schools (any cities from the borders of Richmond to Fremont such as Oakland, Hayward, and Berkeley) - The prize money must go toward a higher education by showing proof of enrollment at any accredited institution within the United States - Winner must serve at least 10 hours of community service for VACCEB Essay Requirement: - Applicant must write a 500 to 600 word essay on the following prompt: - Describe an ideal leader who ensures social equality and represents as well as promotes the interests of the Vietnamese community. o Identify past experiences and personal traits that qualify you as this type of person. o Student can describe his/her community service experience or any events in his/her life that he/she feels appropriate for this prompt.

Eligibility: 3rd Annual Dise/Gardere/Smith Scholarship intends to attract scholarship applicants with good grades, demonstrated commitment to aiding their community, and who intend to return to their community after college to assist the less fortunate. To be eligible for the LAHF Dise/Gardere/Smith Scholarship, the applicant shall: 1. Be a high school senior with a Cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher 2. Show enrollment in a 2 year or 4 year college or university for the Fall 2010 3. Provide 2 letters of recommendation by non-family members or friends, e.g., letters from teachers, counselors, employers or religious leaders 4. Provide transcripts from all high schools attended 5. Submit an essay of 500 words or less, describing: a. Their career goals b. How they have and will assist the socially disadvantaged members of our community with their education 6. Submit, in a timely fashion, a completed, legible application. The entire completed application packet of materials must be postmarked by June 15, 2010.
