Planning for Next Year

This spring, we’ve been busy preparing and planning for the next school year. In the spirit of continuous improvement, we’ve reviewed data from our test scores and the CHKS Survey, and talked with teachers and students.  Based on both formal and informal data, we have made some exciting changes for 2019-20. As you already know, we have added more electives to our Performing Arts program.  A big change is in store for our ninth grade students: The previously required Exploring Computer Science class is now optional, which means that freshmen will no longer be required to start school at 8 AM, unless their individual schedules require it.  We will continue to offer the computer class for all interested 9th graders.  We are also in the process of planning for targeting support classes to specific groups of students.  We will be offering a literacy and language skills intervention course, which is designed for students who need extra support based on their specific learning needs.  Ms. Davidson is also adding to her curriculum to support our English Language Learners.  Our hope is also to set up a math intervention course for our Algebra 1 students.  There are a lot of opinions about how best to measure student performance and learning, but at this time we’re using the SBAC/State ELA and Math tests and the SRI, which measures reading.  It is imperative that we address and support our students who are not performing well and realizing their full potential.

Equity Listening Forum, April 25

Tech has an incredibly devoted Equity Team and I am so thankful for those who serve on it.  The Equity Team has worked all year to put together an Equity Listening Forum this Thursday, April 25, from 6 to 8 PM. More details are here.  I know the conversation will be meaningful and productive, and I encourage you to attend. You will hear from students directly about their experiences and how they got back on track, learn from data collected this past year and how it compares to previous years, and participate in discussions. I’ll also be sharing my thoughts and insights with the group. Come around 5:45 for a complimentary dinner. Childcare will be provided. I hope to see you all there.

In Unity,

Staci Ross-Morrison, Principal
