Letter from Principal Morrison to Bulldog Families

This Wednesday, May 22, many Oakland Tech teachers will collaborate with teachers across the state and travel to Sacramento to rally for increased education spending. We do not yet have a firm count on how many teachers will be absent, but we have been informed that many teachers will travel to Sacramento on Wednesday.

School will be open Wednesday. We will place available substitutes in classes. We are not sure if a substitute for each absent teachers will be available so there may be a need to combine classes. If there is not a substitute in their class, students should bring class materials so that they can use the time to study and prepare for finals.

Wednesday will not be a free day for students. If students attend school, they are expected to be in class. If students come to school, we will not be calling to send them home.

If you or your child need information about specifics for individual teachers and their requirements, please reach out to the teacher directly.

In Unity,

Staci Morrison

OT Faculty Letter to Community

Dear Oakland Tech Community,

On Wednesday, May 22, educators, students, and allies from across California will be traveling to Sacramento for a Day of Action to continue the fight for an equitable and fully funded public education system. Our demands include increased funding for public education through progressive taxation, public accountability and control of charter schools, and racial and social justice within and beyond school doors.

We are expecting a large number of teachers from Oakland Tech to participate in this Day of Action. As such, the school day will be significantly impacted.

We hope you can join us in Sacramento on the 22! It’s shaping up to be a powerful day! An itinerary for the day’s events can be found here. If you are unable to make it to Sacramento, please discuss and make plans with your family accordingly.

Finally, we want to thank the OT parent community once again for having our backs this year. Your support has been invaluable in allowing us to undertake and sustain this fight for the schools our students and your children deserve.

In solidarity,

The Oakland Tech Faculty
