Dear Seniors & Parents of Seniors–
‘Tis the season to start fretting about your college application essays. But have no fear! The OT College Essay Mentors are here to help! A group of professional writers, editors and educators, we will be available to help seniors with college application essays (both UC PIQs and Common App. essays) on campus, at *no cost* beginning NEXT WEEK. Read on for more information:
WHEN & WHERE: Mentors will be available in the College and Career Center on Tuesday afternoons during 6th period and after school, from 2:40 p.m. – 4:15 AND Fridays during lunch. Can’t make one of those times? Please see Ms. Hunter in the CCC. No student who needs help will go without.
WHAT & WHY: Essay brainstorming & strategizing, outlining, review and feedback. We’re not here to “fix it.” We’re here to work with you to create your most compelling story on the page. And we will tell you how to fix it. This is a collaborative process. It is also an equity program. Mentors are writing and editorial professionals giving their time to Tech students. If you (or your senior) is currently working with a paid college counselor, that’s great, and we ask that you help us conserve this resource for students who do not otherwise have access to college essay support. Do you know a student whose parent might not see this message? Please help spread the word to ALL of our students!
Finally, please mark your calendar: Sept. 24, 6 p.m. in the OT Library is The Road to College 2: College Essay Information Night. Admissions professionals will be speaking about strategies and approaches for the UC and Common App. and you will get a chance to meet some of OT’s own College Essay Mentors. Feel free to come with questions! For more information go here.
OT’s College Essay Mentors love working with our seniors. We really do. So, outsource the stress and send them our way!
