School NewsComments Off on The Oakland Tech Auction: Why We Raise Money
Dear Oakland Tech Community:
I hope I see you at the Oakland Tech Auction LEAP INTO AUCTIONthis year at the California Ballroom. You have no excuse to miss it; we created a whole new calendar day – Leap Day – just for this event! February 29 doesn’t roll around too often, so make the most of it partying with the Tech Community.
We need a big and generous turn-out this year. The auction is the biggest PTSA fundraiser we have, and the funds go to support some of Tech’s best programs: sports, performing arts, debate and mock trial, field trips and teacher supplies. More importantly, Tech funds a lot of programs that reach every kid who needs a little support to get through high school — Math Mentors, BOOST Tutoring, the Bulldog Closet and public transit are just a few of the ways we help out. We also support programs that help our kids reach beyond high school including Graduation, Black Excellence, and the HBCU Spring Tour. And check out the mini and maxi grants we give out each semester to teachers, students and administrators.
In order to keep these vital programs going strong, particularly in light of the dramatic budget cuts proposed by OUSD, it is critical that every family who can give participate in some way. While we’d love to have everyone at the auction party itself – on February 29, 6-10 pm, tickets available here, we will also have an online auction that is LIVE NOW – until Sunday at 9 PM. Hurry up and bid. You know the cause is good.
