Announcement from Vanessa Sifuentes

June 2, 2020

Dear Oakland Tech Students, Staff, and Community,

I hope this letter finds you in good health and that the 2019-2020 school year ended positively for everyone.

Thank you all for remaining connected throughout the Principal selection process in spite of us being physically separated. At this time, it is with great pleasure that I welcome Mr. Richard Fairly as the new principal of Oakland Technical High School! On behalf of the High School Linked Learning Office, we are excited about Mr. Fairly stepping into this role as he is a leader deeply committed to the success of all Oakland Tech students. We look forward to supporting him as he embarks on the challenging yet rewarding work of ensuring that all Oakland Tech’s students are college, career, and community ready upon graduation.

As many of you know, Mr. Fairly has been part of the Oakland Tech community for many years and has served in several capacities such as a Science teacher, Teacher on Special Assignment, and most recently as one of your Assistant Principals. In total, Mr. Fairly has served Oakland Tech students, families, and teachers for more than 20 years, and I am confident that his experience will serve the Oakland Tech community well.

I also want to take a moment to thank the Principal Recommendation Committee (PRC) and all of the parents, students, teachers, staff, and community partners who participated in the process. The PRC was committed to hearing from all constituents and incorporating their input into their deliberations. Their commitment to a thorough, transparent, and inclusive process is commendable.

Mr. Fairly will assume his role as Principal of Oakland Tech effective July 1, 2020. In the meantime, Ms. Morrison, Mr. Fairly, and I will work together to ensure a smooth leadership transition so the many systems that make Oakland Tech a great school continue their steady operation.

Thank you for your time and for your ongoing commitment to Oakland Tech. Please join me in welcoming Mr. Fairly as your new principal.

Sincerely,

Vanessa Sifuentes
