This school year, the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) has determined high school sports will be conducted in two seasons, rather than the traditional Fall, Winter, and Spring seasons. There has been a calendar of sports developed, currently scheduled to begin in December, and in some cases, run into the first part of June for the second season. Of particular importance in putting together the schedules has been the importance of avoiding facilities conflicts, while having individual sports play the same number of contests as they would in a traditional year. Athletes will still need a physical exam before they are eligible to participate. All of this, of course, is dependent upon the pandemic allowing sports to resume.

One important change in this school year is that the CIF and Oakland Athletic League rule that forbids student athletes from participating on an outside team, while also playing within the OAL, has been waived, so that students will be able to do both assuming their coaches are agreeable.
