Hello Oakland Oakland Tech Families,

We are happy to announce the start of school next week, and the dates and times to pick up textbooks and technology.

  • Monday, August 10th – 9th grade
  • Tuesday, August 11th – 10th grade
  • Wednesday, August 12th – 11th grade
  • Thursday, August 13th – 12th grade
  • Friday, August 14th – Make-up day for all grades

  • 11:30 am – 1:30 pm (Students with last names from A-L)
  • 1:30 pm –  3:30 pm (Students with last names from M-Z)
  • 3:30 pm – 4:30 pm (Open to all students with last names from A-Z)
(The gate may be closed early, around 4:00 pm, depending on how many people are waiting to get in, so best to come before that if possible.)

Students SHOULD NOT try to check out a textbook before 11:15 am. They will be turned away as they should technically be in class still with their teachers on Zoom.

This may cause a logistical headache, but in an effort to prevent long lines, the textbook volunteer coordinator has stated that PARENTS can come early starting at 10:00 am if you wish. Parents must have student schedule ready to share.

Please don’t be in a rush. Textbooks are generally passed out over the course of the first two weeks of school and teachers are expected to build community and relationships with their students before jumping 100% into lessons.

Due to concerns around the spread of COVID-19, we are not allowed to admit large numbers of people into the building.

Please adhere to the scheduled grade level times, as we will only be pulling the necessary textbooks for each grade level on each day. This will help keep the line moving.

HOW: Please follow these instructions:

    1. Enter the school from 45th Street near the Girl’s Gym gate (approach the 45th gate from the West (Telegraph) so that we can avoid anyone trying to turn left from 45th on to campus since those on 45th have the right of way. Please line up in your cars along 45th and be patient and kind with yourselves, each other, and the volunteers. Please DO NOT block the gate that exits from 45th/Manilla Ave as that is one part of the exit route.
    2. Once on campus, proceed slowly towards the Principal’s parking lot (first parking lot on the left) where there will be school representatives/volunteers and tables waiting to bring your books to you.
      • Please do not get out of your car.
      • Please do not allow your children to get out of the car if possible (especially while on campus as OUSD does not allow people congregating on campus..I get it though.. my teenager has been crawling up the walls).
      • Please wear a mask when interacting with staff/volunteers.
      • You must have your course schedule ready to share with the volunteers. To do this, you must go to Aeries (student or parent portal) and print it out if possible (schedules were posted to Aeries on Friday).
      • If you cannot print it out, write it on a piece of paper (Include Your full name/student ID #/the course title of each of your classes/Name of Teacher)
    3. Once done, please drive slowly forward and look for the signs that are described below (items a and b):
      • If you only need textbooks, you will then drive forward and turn right (signs will be posted) and drive slowly along the road adjacent to the field/portables. You should exit out of the 45th street gate located between the portables and the Boy’s Gym.
      • If you need a technology device (computer or a hotspot), proceed straight along the roadway towards 42nd Street, which will take you behind the bleachers toward the S-Building. The Chromebooks will be distributed from here. Please wait in line patiently. You will be asked to fill out a form and a parent signature will be required. Please be ready to provide your students name and School ID number (All available on Aeries).
        • Please make sure that you have filled out the technology needs survey at so that we can know who may be coming that day so we know how many to pull out for the students. We do not want people walking up saying they need one. All students who need a computer will get a loaned Chromebook from Oakland Tech’s inventory and will be expected to take care of the computer accordingly and return it at the end of the year.
        • If you borrowed a loner Chromebook from the spring you will keep that Chromebook throughout the year and will not bring it back unless it is not working or functioning. However:
        • However, if you are eventually qualified for an Oakland Undivided computer (via the survey done through Aeries Parent Portal — OUSD has not shared the results yet), you will be notified and you will be required to return the loaner Chromebook at the end of August when you pick up the device that is yours to keep.

Please come on the make-up day. You can also possibly come the following week, but that will be by appointment only via email:

Please let me know if you have any further questions, comments, or concerns. This process is brand new and we will do the best we can to serve you all in a timely manner.

If you would like to volunteer please sign up here:

NOTE: Please sign up on the first form (the OUSD version) at least, but best if you sign up on BOTH forms, as OUSD has a tracker that is supposed to track volunteers, and we created our own as well for more functional control.

Please bear with us as this process is brand new, and we will do the best we can to serve you all in a timely manner.
