OAKLAND TECH OPERATIONS DURING REOPENING

In-person Learning: We are encouraged to have students from our priority groups returning to campus for in-person learning opportunities. Our priority groups are those specified in the district’s Spring 2021 Educational Program:

  • Pupils at risk for abuse, neglect or exploitation;

  • Students attending below 60% of the week;

  • Students with Individual Education Programs (IEPs) who spend more than 50% of their day in a self-contained setting (i.e., Special Day Class);

  • English Language Learners;

  • Unhoused Students;

  • Foster Youth Students; and

  • Students without secure technology and internet access.

The school is continuing to reach out to families who have not yet responded to offer them the in-person learning opportunity. As new priority students opt in, we form new small stable groups of 8-12 students and assign the new group to an available teacher in our In-person Learning section of the building. Students remain a part of their small stable group for the remainder of the school year, and they come to school for in-person learning from 1:15-3:15pm on Tuesday and Thursday. They participate in advisory activities and study skills support with a credentialed teacher.

Distance Learning: There were media reports last week of ongoing discussions between the Oakland Education Association and OUSD. Students and families can be assured that those discussions will not interrupt the instruction that Oakland Tech teachers are providing. Teachers will continue to provide instruction and maintain contact with students and families as they have from the start of the year. Some teachers have been providing instruction from classrooms at Oakland Tech for many months, and all teachers are provided that option. As our number of priority student groups grows, additional teachers will be providing in-person learning at school.
