On June 30, Oakland Unified School District Chief Academic Officer Dr. Sondra Aguilera published an update on re-opening school campuses for the 2021-22 school year. Dr. Aguilera informed the OUSD community that a choice of in-person or distance learning will be available to all students when school resumes on Aug. 9.

In a survey conducted last spring, OUSD families were asked if they would prefer in-person or distance learning for the next school year. According to Dr. Aguilera’s statement, the district will contact families who indicated a preference for distance learning (or who were undecided at that time) to confirm their choice and arrange for enrollment in the district’s Sojourner Truth Independent Study program.

Those who indicated a preference for in-person learning in the spring survey still have the option of choosing distance learning by contacting the OUSD Enrollment Office at enroll@ousd.org.
