Tech Auditorium

Please join us for the RPL Documentary Screening Showcase on Saturday, May 11 — an event celebrating the hard work of students in the Race, Policy & Law Academy here at Tech!

Over the course of eight weeks, juniors in RPL have dedicated themselves to discovering the art of film production under the guidance of professional documentarian Lyntoria Newton, through KDOL. Out of this has come a thought-provoking collection of short films that highlight current issues within the Oakland Unified School District and education in general

Tickets & Time

Ticket sales and doors open at 6:15 PM. There will be refreshments for sale and a red carpet for photographs. Tickets are priced by donation only on a sliding, equitable scale; participating students and family members have seats reserved. All other seats are first-come, first-serve basis; tickets are not available for purchase in advance.

Screenings of the films start at 7 PM. In addition, we will have a panel of students and an awards ceremony. The event is scheduled to end at 8:30 PM.

What’s RPL?

Race, Policy, and Law is the newest academy at Tech. RPL is a safe and supportive community of interested and engaged students, teachers, and community members who are empowered to take action to address social justice issues. RPL encourages students to be more open to social issues through relevant curriculum and real world experience. We hope to understand how the past has shaped today’s society through exploring different narratives, so we can have a lasting social impact on our community and on a larger scale, after we leave Oakland Tech. The juniors who produced these documentaries are the very first students to go through our program.
