Since its founding more than 100 years ago, Oakland Technical High School has produced some of the greatest athletes, artists, entertainers, scientists, social activists, statesmen, and scholars of any high school in the country.

Here is a brief list of notable Oakland Tech alumni:

Josh Johnson ’04:Third-team FCS All-American and a Payton Award finalist, University of San Diego. Drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the 5th Round of the 2008 NFL Draft.

Harold ‘Brick’ Muller ’19:3-Sport Cal All-American, 1920 Olympian in high jump.
Huey P. Newton ’59:Co-founder and leader of the Black Panther Party.
Frank Oz (Oznowicz) ’62 :Director, actor, and puppeteer, and co-creator of The Muppets. Responsible for creating several key characters on Sesame Street, and performed both puppeting and voice for Yoda in Star Wars series.
Nell Irvin Painter ’59 :American historian and past President of the Organization of American Historians
  Wolfe Perry ’74 :Stanford Basketball 1976-79, actor in The White Shadow TV series.

Ron Williams ’60: Well-known actor, singer, and television performer in Germany, where he has lived and worked for more than fifty years.
